Last month I noted how various infrastructure networks collapsed as a result of a lot of rains in Bombay. It looks like the same story has been repeated in New Orleans with hurricane Katrina. Cells phones are out, emails not running properly, electricity supply disrupted in many parts, and the city is virtually inaccessible by most means of transportation. What is interesting is that the catastrophe seemed to have caught the city by surprise in terms of the widespread nature of the system failures. I will try to make a detailed post about it afterwards, but still wanted to make a note of it.
